Addgene Newsletter, October 2026

Banner: Join Addgene at Neuroscience 2026 from November 15-18, 2026 in Washington, D.C. at Booth 2523

Hi Reader,

Our 2026 Impact Survey opens today, and we’d love to hear from you. Your feedback helps shape how we support researchers and the broader scientific community.

We’re also heading to Washington, D.C., for Neuroscience 2026. If you’re attending, stop by Booth 2523 to meet the team.

Back in Boston, Addgene was honored at the Kendall Square Association’s Innovation for Good celebration, and our team joined Blood Cancer United’s Light The Night walk to support blood cancer research.

Light the Night

Addgene staff carried lanterns across Boston Common at Blood Cancer United’s Light The Night walk to raise funds for blood cancer research.

In this issue:

  • Share your feedback in the 2026 Impact Survey

  • Meet us at Neuroscience 2026 (Booth 2523)
  • Built to Share: The science & impact of chromoproteins
  • Addgene honored at Innovation for Good celebration
  • Learn about BioLuminescent OptoGenetics
  • Use your Q4 promo code

Share Your Feedback in the 2026 Impact Survey

Tell us about your experience with Addgene’s research materials, services, and educational resources. The survey only takes about 5–10 minutes.

Take the Survey

As a thank you, you’ll be entered to win a $25 USD gift card or a $25 USD Addgene discount. Ten winners will be selected at random and notified by January 15, 2027.

Meet Addgene at Neuroscience 2026

Stop by Booth 2523 at Neuroscience 2026 to meet the Addgene team and talk through your next experiment. Here are two ways to get more out of your visit:

  • Join our Conference Ambassador Program: If you’re presenting research that uses materials available from Addgene, sign up to be recognized at our booth and get exclusive swag.
  • Book Office Hours: Need help selecting a plasmid or viral vector? Reserve a 15-minute session with one of our Application Scientists.

Both opportunities require advance sign-up, so visit our event page before heading to D.C.

Built to Share: The Science & Impact of Chromoproteins

Chromoproteins Thumbnail-1

Ashley Waldron explores how chromoproteins bring molecular biology to life.

In the second episode of Built to Share, Ashley Waldron, PhD, from Addgene’s Scientific Applications team, explores the science behind chromoproteins and the kits developed in Anthony Forster’s lab. You’ll also hear from Lisa Scheifele, PhD, Executive Director of the Baltimore Underground Science Space (BUGSS), about how chromoproteins make molecular biology more accessible to learners at every level.

Addgene Honored at Innovation for Good Celebration

KSA_Group_01-1

Addgene accepted the Kendall Square Association’s Innovation for Good honor.

On October 14, the Kendall Square Association honored Addgene at its Innovation for Good celebration. President and Executive Director Chonnettia Jones, PhD, accepted the honor alongside co-founder Melina Fan.

In 2004, getting a plasmid from another lab could take months. Our founders — Melina Fan, Benjie Chen, and Kenneth Fan — started Addgene to make sharing research materials faster and easier. Today, researchers have requested materials from Addgene more than 2.5 million times, reaching labs in over 100 countries.

Thank you to the Kendall Square Association, and congratulations to our fellow honorees!

BioLuminescent OptoGenetics: Molecular Control with Biological Light

Thursday, November 5 | 12:00 PM ET / 9:00 AM PT

Presented by Brian O’Neill, PhD (Senior Scientist III, Scientific Applications, Addgene), Ute Hochgeschwender, MD (Professor, Central Michigan University College of Medicine), and Eric D. Petersen, PhD (Associate Professor, Central Michigan University College of Medicine).

Learn how BioLuminescent OptoGenetics (BL-OG) uses genetically encoded components to generate and sense light within cells, enabling researchers to control cellular activity without external light sources. This webinar covers BL-OG applications, key advantages, and the Addgene plasmid and AAV resources available to support your research.
