Addgene Newsletter, August 2020

Dear scientists,

What if after receiving a plasmid from Addgene you didn't have to grow the bacteria and prep the plasmid before you begin your cloning experiment? What if instead you could directly start your digest, PCR, or transformation?

Great news! A subset of our collection has been prepared as part of our new cloning grade DNA service and is ready to use out of the box. And, we think this new service will save you up to three days of work.

We’re beginning with 210 plasmids from Addgene’s collection. Most of these plasmids are empty backbones, some containing fluorescent markers or protein tags, and are suitable for molecular cloning. We’ve also included ten plasmids that can be directly used for SARS-CoV-2 research.

We’re excited to begin offering this service to further contribute to our mission to “accelerate research and discovery.”

Hot plasmids

We’re constantly adding useful new plasmid tools and viral preps to the collection. A few of these are highlighted in the latest Hot Plasmids article, including:

  • Yeast-based protein evolution
  • Fluorescent tools for mammalian cells
  • Nanobody purification
  • CRISPRi and CRISPRa system for hPSCs
